Arthur Christmas gets a teaser trailer

James McAvoy

The first teaser trailer for Aardman Animations’ festive Arthur Christmas has blasted online.

It’s the studio’s first feature film since the disappointing Flushed Away in 2006, which saw the British minds behind Wallace and Gromit venture into CGI terrain.

With Arthur Christmas , they’re not only returning to CGI, but also launching themselves into full-on 3D as well.

James McAvoy provides the voice of Arthur, the clumsy son of Santa Claus who just loves Christmas time.

Unfortunately, he’s the only one left in the family who does, with brother Steve (Hugh Laurie), Grandsanta (Bill Nighy), Mrs Santa (Imelda Staunton) and even Santa himself (Jim Broadbent) tiring of the season.

Check out the teaser below…

Alright, it’s not exactly a sparkling CGI wonder, but you’ve got to admit the teaser’s got its charms. Even if it is built around one joke that gets amped up throughout the running time.

The spaceship Santa sleigh is a fun idea that chimes with Aardman’s love of technological gizmos – but can Arthur prove to be a winning hero?

Find out when Arthur Christmas opens in cinemas on 23 November, 2011.
