Arkham Asylum 2 now Batman: Arkham City, coming Fall 2011 with Catwoman and Two-Face

Since the surprising and sudden announcement of a sequel to GR’s 2009 Game of the Year, we’ve been waiting for some concrete info on the follow-up to Batman: Arkham Asylum. We’d take any scrap of info we’d find, be it expertly dissecting the reveal trailer or addressing Robin rumors. But today we got something real, as Warner Bros and developer Rocksteady revealed the new title, Batman: Arkham City, and that it will be coming out fall 2011.

The game takes place in the newly opened Arkham City, an open air, walled off prison in the center of Gotham, which houses all the criminals that were formerly in the asylum that Joker effed up. It sounds similar to the ‘80s classic Escape from New York, and fits with most of what we assumed from what little we knew before, including the well known of image of the Joker hanging out in a rundown apartment.

Our colleagues at Game Informer have some of the first images of the game on their just-divulged cover for next month’s issue. The biggest bomb they drop is the appearance of Catwoman, who from the look on the covers seems to be either helping or impeding Bats, which is totally fitting with her character. And if you squint, you’ll see in the background a poster of Harvey Dent/Two-Face, who seems to be running for mayor of the newly christened city.

Obviously, as more info and art become available we’ll keep you posted, but needless to say, we're going to need a lot of patience over the next year.

I started reading the No Man's Land comic in preparation for this game, although it looks like they're taking a different angle. All well, still looks pretty badass!

Screw that, make it Gotham City
  • Defguru7777 - August 6, 2010 4:13 a.m.

Unfortunately I still have to play the first game. So many things to do...

Oh happy days, oh happy days. Great to see the new developments coming out for this game so far. It's also great to hear the, as stated above, official title of the game being Batman: Arkham City. The name really fits with the perceived setting of the game. I'm also intrigued by Catwoman's whip and chains. This is gonna be a wild ride.
  • Sickooo - August 6, 2010 12:40 a.m.

hmmm dont like the name very much, however if catwoman is playable this will b such a tight game
  • Axcleblade - August 6, 2010 12:09 a.m.

Arkham City? I dunno, I don't think the name sounds as good as Arkham Asylum. Next year's going to be even more awesome now than it already was.

  • paganpoet - August 5, 2010 8:47 p.m.

@Wolverine, LOL! No, I genuinely want to play as far as the "unique angles" thing goes, I'm afraid I'd me more interested in Batman than Catwoman.
  • Cyberninja - August 5, 2010 8:16 p.m.

so they made a city where crimminals run wild who thought that was a good idea.
  • VyseTheTetrisdork - August 5, 2010 8:09 p.m.

I can't believe I'm going to buy an issue of Game Informer. Or two. Both covers look awesome and wallpaper-worthy. I may have to actually start playing the first game now...
  • rockstarsean - August 5, 2010 8:03 p.m.

Hopefully the awesome will continue all the way to the last boss this time
  • CapNJunkie - August 5, 2010 7:59 p.m.

I absolutely loved BAA. Can't wait for this one. Will it be as awesome? "All I know is my gut says 'maybe'"
  • Amnesiac - August 5, 2010 7:57 p.m.

I'm actually glad the release date is now next fall. I was afraid they were going to rush it out.
  • Wolverine08 - August 5, 2010 7:08 p.m.

This just hit the top of my most wanted list. Loving the art style, and can't wait to see the villains for real, mainly Two-face. @paganpoet I expect you only want her playable so you can experiment with 'unique' camera angles, much like I did in Lara Croft games on PS2, if you see what I mean.... Also, look at Two-Face on the first image, you can just see is evil half, which makes me even more excited.

I know what game I will be buying next year! Can't wait for my GameInformer to come in the mail now.
  • RebornKusabi - August 5, 2010 6:07 p.m.

Big ups for hawt Cat on Bat action. I really love the whole look of the covers too so I might just be picking up an issue just to have that awesome cover.
  • paganpoet - August 5, 2010 5:54 p.m.

Oh god, I hope they make Catwoman playable.
