An American In Paris review

“Paris is like love, or art or faith,” says Gene Kelly’s aspiring artist. “It can’t be explained, only felt.”

Still, Vincente Minnelli’s 1951 multi-Oscared musical has arguably done more than most to define the City of Light’s appeal.

Digitally restored – the dreamy Technicolor now as vibrant as an Impressionist painting – it’s up there with the very best of Hollywood hoofers.

Led by Kelly and love interest Leslie Caron, the dance numbers are first class, the backlot-shot
sets inspired and the Gershwin song selection (‘I Got Rhythm’, ‘’S Wonderful’) to die for. Who could ask for anything more?
