It may seem pointless to award honors to a bunch of unreleased games, but the tradition at least offers an easy-to-digest E3 hype gauge. Nintendo's 3DS won Best Hardware and Best of Show, and based on our time with it, the awards are deserved. But since we love to play devil's advocate, we'll point out that the Wii won Best of Show in 2006, and you know how much we love it now...
Mysterious reflections spotted in the Ghost of Sparta trailer. And, a pretty big hint that Kratos will be visiting Atlantis.
The June 4/11 issue of Entertainment Weekly, which subscribers received last week, features a massive cover story on the 100 best characters of the last 20 years, a list that - almost surprisingly - contains a few game characters, including Master Chief and Lara Croft. As far as we're concerned, though, the crown jewel of the rather massive list is entry 93 (on page 91), titled Game Boys, which gives the single spot to Uncharted's Nathan Drake, God of War's Kratos and Grand Theft Auto IV's Niko Bellic.
As a gamer, you might think it's blasphemous to shunt three prominent, beloved characters into one remote-seeming entry. But you won't care once you see the page, which features an amazing photo of the characters' voice actors - Nolan North, T.C. Carson and Michael Hollick - dressed as microphone-wielding versions of their respective roles...
When people ask what your favorite kind of videogame is, do you say "books?" Did you like playing God of War, but wished you could have learned more about what thoughts boiled ephemeral behind Kratos' mighty alabaster thews as he rent asunder the putrescent hordes of the underworld? Then you're going to love the shit out of the God of War novelization (by Matthew Stover and Robert E. Vardeman), due out May 25.
In advance of the book's publication, publisher Del Rey has released the large-print prologue and first chapter online, and it sports some of the most hilariously overwrought prose we've read since that second sentence up there.
A couple months ago, speculation ran wild about Spartans Stand Tall, a "secret" website that was revealed when God of War III players earned a Platinum Trophy, and which featured nothing but animated rain and a strange, circular meter in the shape of a Spartan shield. Today, we finally learned what the site was teasing: A new PSP God of War prequel, titled Ghost of Sparta. Hit the jump for more details and screens.
As part of its Tokyo Game Show presence Sony has produced a set of new screens for all of its forthcoming titles.

John Riccitiello has been talking freely about The Godfather II. At the William Blair & Company's investor meeting on Tuesday, Riccitiello said that EA's Redwood Shores studio is at work on a sequel to The Godfather game, which released in 2006.
"It's a game that I think we'll be talking a lot about this fall," Riccitiello told investors. "You can play this game both at the street level, much like a GTA-style game, but you can
Two more ahem, "golden oldies" have appeared on Xbox Live's Xbox Originals service this morning, the first of which is Vivendi's Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning.
As you can probably guess from the title, New Beginning was the first in the Legend trilogy of Spyro games, adding more action-based platforming gameplay and an even more annoying voice over for the purple dragon.
The second, more interesting title up for download is 2D
