Tokyo Game Show might be looming just over the horizon, but not all the interesting developments on the Japanese side of the games industry are coming out of a packed-to-the-brim Tokyo Bay convention center. Earlier this month, the annual CEDEC conference was held in Yokohama, Japan. CEDEC is a conference sponsored by Japan’s Consumer Entertainment Software Association (the same group that puts on TGS) and is geared heavily toward development, much like the Game Developers Conference. Unlike GDC, however, CEDEC is considerably more low-key – though that doesn’t mean that there isn’t some interesting news flowing forth from the event...

The official Final Fantasy XIV website has been updated with new information about the game's clans, which are subsets of the races. The races, by the way, are a lot like FFXI's races, which is good if you liked those races, bad if you didn't, and meaningless if you're everyone else, which you probably are.
We've created a concise overview of the game's races and clans, mostly because they're easy targets for dumb jokes and cynicism...

Aerith may have eaten sword over a decade ago, but the legend of Final Fantasy VII's most famous flower girl has lived on in countless fan tributes. Few, however, are as professionally produced or just plain fun to crack out at a party as US recording artist Random's newest hip-hop homage...

Remember at last year’s Sony E3 press conference when there was this big surprise reveal of Final Fantasy XIV, and how the console release was going to be exclusive to PS3? Well, it turns out that’s only because Microsoft flat-out rejected the idea of bringing the massively multiplayer online game to the Xbox 360...
PlayStation 3 gamers wanting to get their hands dirty with Final Fantasy XIV are going to have to wait six months longer than PC gamers. And publisher Square Enix is now saying, "Hey, don't blame us."
A producer at the Final Fantasy studio gave some new details about why the planned simultaneous launch between console and PC will end up being far from reality. Guess what? Turns out, PS3 isn't quite a high-end PC...
Yesterday, I explained why the 8-hours levelling fatigue system that Square-Enix is implementing in Final Fantasy XIV is actually a very good idea. But when it comes to the ins and outs of the system, I've got to let the game's director, Nobuaki Komoto, explain it for himself. Primarily because he's written 1,000 words on the subject. You can read them right here. Were you having trouble sleeping? No longer, my friend. No longer.

Final Fantasy XIV has not been met with critical acclaim. A glance at its Metacritic ranking reveals a rather painful 51/100 for the critics' rating on the PC version and 3.8/10 for the user score. It's fair to say the game has some issues. But Square-Enix has a solution to appease existing players, and entice new ones, all the while giving the developer time to make some much-needed changes. Yes, the trial period is being extended to 60 days. Woot?

Square Enix has received a flurry of criticism over its new Final Fantasy MMORPG, and now the publisher is promising to respond with a series of big updates.
"When we released the first version of Final Fantasy XIV, we noticed some players were unsatisfied. That's why we decided to listen to all the feedback and implement as much as possible, so we can have a more satisfying game experience, as they would like us to do," said Square Enix exec Hiromichi Tanaka in a recent interview with Eurogamer...

Oh, Final Fantasy XIV, whose dreams won't you destroy? After gamers’ tepid reception of the expensive MMO, publisher Square Enix has reduced its earnings forecasts for the remainder of the fiscal year from 12 billion yen to 1 billion (from about $142 million to $12 million)...

Titled ‘Life in Eorzea,’ the trailer takes you through a tour of a large town, showing off vendors, landmarks and characters. The level of detail in the trailer looks quite impressive so far…
