  • 20th Dec, 2007 Gaming is an up and down experience. Some years cram top quality titles into our every orifice until were bursting with videogame joy and have excess polygons dripping messily out of our ears, while some other years… Well, some other years are 1983. In 2007 though, weve had a very good year indeed. A scarily good year in fact. • Activision and Infinity Ward are in high-five overdrive today as both teams report the CoD 4 Variety Map Pack has broken an XBL record for the number of paid downloads. Bye, bye Halo.

  • Nov 12, 2007 An analyst for Nollenberger Capital Partners has gone out there and stated that he thinks Activision's awesome Call of Duty 4 will outsell Halo 3. Todd Greenwald said, "Thus far, the game has an average score of 9.5/10 on Metacritic.com, which is almost unprecedented and puts it on par with Halo 3. It certainly is the highest-rated game Activision has ever created. Keep in mind, COD4 is launching on four times as many platforms (Xbox 360, PlayStation3, PC, DS) as Halo 3 (360
  • Halo has dominated Xbox Live since Halo 2 hit Xbox, even topping the 360's online gaming lists (until Gears of War), but the third game's domination of Microsoft's online servers has been put on hold by Activision. Last week, (beginning Jan 14), Call of Duty 4 managed to knock Halo 3 off the top spot on the list of most played Xbox Live games. • Above: EA’s John Schappert knows that Medal of Honor won’t outsell CoD: Black Ops or Halo: Reach, but believes the publisher can take back a ‘leadership position’ in the FPS genre in a few years

You know it. Ice-T knows it. And it looks like Electronic Arts knows it, too. When speaking about the expected sales for Medal of Honor in a Q1 2011 earnings call, EA Chief Operating Officer John Schappert said, “I don’t expect to topple either Halo or CoD this year.”

  • Microsoft has released its list of the most popular Xbox Live games of 2011, and you'll never guess which franchise made it to the top. Unless you guessed Call of Duty; in which case, you're pretty much dead on...

  • Yes, THQ’s upcoming Homefront is a shooter about repelling North Korean invaders from US soil. Yes, it’s penned by John Milius, screenwriter of Red Dawn and Conan the Barbarian (and alleged inspiration for John Goodman’s slightly batshit character in The Big Lebowski). But it will not, according to THQ core-game VP Danny Bilson, have what he calls the “steroided-out, super-soldier, waving the American flag” mentality of games like Call of Duty and Medal of Honor...
