The search for the young Han Solo has been long and extensive, but we're getting closer and closer to finding out which actor has won the role. Not too long ago we learned that the shortlist had been narrowed down to five names, and one of those lucky hopefuls has now emerged as the singular frontrunner.
According to Deadline, Hail! Caesar's Alden Ehrenreich is now the favourite to play Han Solo, with the report citing his "impressive" screen tests as the reason why he's currently leading the pack.
With the casting so shrouded in mystery, it's a little premature to take this news at face value at this point. Ehrenreich would be a great choice though; he was easily one of the highlights of Hail! Caesar - there is a scene he shares with Ralph Fiennes' character in the film that will definitely go down as one of the funniest sequences of the year - and the fact that he is a relative unknown makes him an even better candidate.
Whether he wins the role or not, Ehrenreich's star is clearly on the rise - he'll next be seen in Warren Beatty’s untitled Howard Hughes film - and I'm looking forward to seeing his development on screen.
Directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the Han Solo standalone movie is scheduled to open on May 25, 2018.
