Alan Wake

Weather and environmental effects will add new challenges to driving and exploring sections, and of course nightfall – which gets earlier every day as the nights grow freakishly long – brings a whole new set of problems.

Alan Wake’s nightmares grow flesh at sundown. Who are these caped and hooded men? Where is his wife? Is Wake just insane?

Intriguingly, the inspiration is not Hollywood, but TV. David Lynch’s Twin Peaks is an obvious touchstone, and the mission-based structure of Alan Wake can be expected to mirror the episodic nature of a TV serial. Look at it like this: FEAR’s normal-world-gone-slightly-wrong was actually just a dull grey corridor, but with Alan Wake we’ll find out just how unnerving the outside world can get when you give it a little Lynchian twist.
