Activision's latest project with Dreamworks Animation,
Dreamworks Super Star Kartz, is a pretty canny bit of teamwork indeed. A “Z”
where the “S” should go? Check. An all-star line-up in undersized go-karts?
Check. Shrek? Oh, you best believe that's a check. But before you fire off a snarky
“meh” in the new title's direction, consider this: between people who were
young when these things were first in vogue (and hence massively susceptible to
nostalgia) and people who are young now (and hence massively susceptible to
Shrek), this thing has the potential to appeal to everyone.
Combining 14 characters from Dreamworks properties such as Shrek, How to Train Your Dragon, Monsters Vs Aliens and Madagascar, the game will include Time Trial, Battle Mode, standard Circuit races, four-player split-screen, and a range of weaponry and courses plucked from the imaginations of Dreamworks' animators.
Again, sneer all you like, but go-kart games are like pizza or sex: even when they're bad they're still pretty good, as long as you never, ever mix them. Expect Super Star Kartz to ship this holiday season for the Nintendo DS, 3DS, Wii, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. In the meantime, see how this racer rolls in our screenshot gallery below.
