999: 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors demo takes you to strange places

There aren’t that many M-rated games on the Nintendo DS. So if you’re looking to pass the time with something a little darker and a lot weirder than your average JRPG, we suggest you check out the demo for Aksys Games’ 999: 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors. You can play the browser-based demo by clicking here.

The visual novel follows the story of Junpei, a college student who finds himself trapped on a ship with an old school friend from 9 years ago. The number ‘five’ is written on a nearby door in what appears to be blood and you experience a flashback of a masked man welcoming you to the ‘Nonary Game.’ As you unravel the mystery of why you’re trapped on this boat you’ll meet other strangers and will need to figure out how to escape.

Above: The 999 demo is pretty neat! You can check it out here

Above: A quick look at the 9 cast members stuck playing the Nonary Game with you in 999

Depending on how you interact with the other characters, you can expect multiple endings from 999, which appears to be in the running for our ‘WTF JRPG of the Year’ award along with Criminal Girls and Catherine.

An adult themed JRPG without naked boobs (that we know of so far!)? Shocker!

Wow, that was creepy/tense fun. Like all those Escape flash games with a Saw-ish twist. Just wish I had a DS at the moment...sigh, come out soon 3DS!

Heh, lovely. I think I'll give this a check. I loooove mindfuck games, even though I haven't found that many to experience.

^ My first thought is that somehow Junpei from P3 got a spinoff. Im interested as long as the dont try to play up the boobs or anything like that.

I am really looking forward to this. The only disappointing thing is that Junpei isn't the Junpei we all know and love from P3.
