8 simple reasons you suck at Killzone 3 multiplayer

4) You Think Killing Matters

Above: Calm down. There's no need to kill everything that wanders in front of you

This is a problem that's really not exclusive to Killzone 3. These idiots show up everywhere. It never fails. We'll be playing an objective-based game and notice some teammate is basically camped up in a corner with a sniper rifle racking up kills. What? Why? You're not doing anything. Your kills are good for nothing but e-peen. And we're still not impressed.

How To Fix It: Killing should only be your goal in the bodycount game type. Otherwise the enemy you killed is just going to respawn in five seconds or less, and that's really not a constructive use of your time. The only place where a kill matters is near an objective. Go try to complete an objective or back up a teammate that's trying to take an objective.

3) You Crowd Around Doors

Above: Imagine what would happen if someone threw a grenade into this mob. It's the same thing that happens to you if you crowd a door in Killzone 3

It's always amusing to see 4+ teammates crowding around a door trying to fight back the enemy. We always imagine them thinking they're stacked up by the door in perfect formation just like in Rainbow Six. But then an enemy tosses a grenade into the door and scores a quadruple kill. Nice job guys.

How To Fix It: Spread out. Groups of two are usually the most effective. Any more than that is overkill and you're setting yourself up for big explosive death combos. If both teams are fighting for control of a narrow bridge or door, then that's a perfect opportunity for you to sneak around and get the drop on them.

Worst in: All modes

2) Killing Downed Enemies

Above: He's already dead, so let him be. Shooting him again is just beating a dead horse

When an enemy is killed in Killzone 3 they don't really seem dead at first. They lie on the ground writhing in pain for five seconds until they can respawn. They're essentially trapped there in purgatory but people still love to shoot them when they're down. They're already dead! You're just doing them a favor by hastening their respawn. I already hear you about to say, “but what if they're a medic and they can self-resurrect!?” Listen to yourself. Are you actually concerned that somebody is going to play a medic in an online shooter? Let alone a medic with Triage+ leveled up? Go sit on the bench.

How To Fix It: Let them bleed. There's maybe a 0.1% chance that it's a medic about to resurrect himself and an even smaller chance that he'll be able to kill you once he does resurrect. If he's waiting for a medic then let him wait, you can kill the medic when he comes too.

Worst in: All modes

1) You're Not Using Melee

Above: The old adage was wrong. In this case you'd better bring a knife to the gunfight

The melee attack in Killzone 3 is insanely powerful. It's an instant one-hit kill, and the only drawback is that it takes a little while. It's not perfect, but it's vastly preferable to trying to spray the enemy with bullets. So many things can go wrong when you do that. He has a gun too, so it's best not to give him any opportunities to use it.

How To Fix It: Just run up and cut him instead. Nine times out of ten you'll catch the enemy off guard and score a silent, brutal kill. If you start spraying those bullets around you'll attract attention and you're giving the enemy player the chance to turn around and defend himself. This has the added bonus of embarrassing them with a knife to the eye as well.

Actually, medics standing back up is becoming pretty common now that the games been out a little while. If he is not a medic let him be. If he is, and you're safe, kill him before you reload.

finishing off downed enemies is a good thing. it doesn't make them spawn faster it will allow you to walk around with out getting stuck on a damn body
  • Flashinthepan - February 28, 2011 6:21 a.m.

The only time you use the knife is during a brutal melee, otherwise it's the butt of the gun that kills the enemy. These are also very generic rules to not suck at shooters in general, so maybe you haven't actually played Killzone 3 yet, and just wrote this obligatorily.

I almost fell off of my chair when I saw the Black Cops picture.
  • EroticInvisibleMan - February 27, 2011 1:22 a.m.

I'd like to think the reason I suck at it is because I've never played it, but I don't have the wherewithal to defend myself.
  • LordGremlin - February 26, 2011 1:54 p.m.

Reason 1 and main: You don't use FragFX.
  • NightCrawler_358 - February 26, 2011 10:43 a.m.

Hey! I played medic in KZ2 and i was pretty great at it! i revived and supllied health packs, and when i went lone wolf i could rack up kills and just heal myself. KZ3 is a bit different, but i like the medics first SMG.
  • brightroar - February 26, 2011 7:33 a.m.

As someone who plays as medic I can't believe it when I get killed and the other guy walks past me and leaves me to jump up and stab him in the face.. but if they are going to keep doing it I won't be complaining!
  • zanthox - February 26, 2011 5:22 a.m.

I want this game so bad. And I saw many making these mistakes in the beta. Great article.
  • minimaxi - February 26, 2011 4:55 a.m.

yep I think everyone agrees that #2 is totally retarded. case closed.
  • BPM027 - February 26, 2011 4:47 a.m.

Pretty good article, but number 2 on the list is actually terrible advice. I've seen people get revived by their bot and kill their "killer" more times than I can count.
  • Gameguy94 - February 26, 2011 3:59 a.m.

Helpful hints although most people still aren't used to something like the infiltrator and many PS3 gamers didn't get a chance to play Team Fortress 2.
  • lightsideluc - February 26, 2011 3:05 a.m.

Medic-ing with triage++ is an awesome way to get extra kills. Personally I think there should be a nice big fat bonus for coming back to life and killing, or even better, assassinating the guy who just killed you. Also, the little bot may not get kills bhy itself but it can pick off the guy you just got killed by if you wounded him as well as act as a shield or distraction. Also, about medics not being of use in games, you obviously haven't seen my Battlefield BC2 scores.
  • mahabat - February 26, 2011 2:36 a.m.

haha Gamesradar makes one of these articles every time a new big shooter comes out, every time...
  • Robx - February 26, 2011 2:17 a.m.

The first picture is an exact representation of what was it like when I played paintball with some first timers as teammates and they didn't want to listen my initial tips, they said "Forget that crap we'll just go forward and kick their asses!". Yes, after the whistle, that's what we looked like as I reminded each one of them about their mothers... BUT BACK TO THE SUBJECT! These reasons are actually very, VERY common on many other games. There's always a fool standing behind the flag, one who walks on the middle of the field (disguised) shooting (and missing) at the enemies, fuckers that just watch you die alone over and over as you attempt to achieve the game's objective for the sake of that same team that backs you up SO much, also the group of morons who camp at the same spot behind a door and...wait, Melee best? Did you said this was not like Call of Duty?
  • Markstone - February 26, 2011 2:11 a.m.

I agree with Blasto, I love using tirage and then backstabbing the person who killed me. Also shooting downed enemies prevents enemy medics from reviving their comrades, and they have to spawn further away from the combat zone. And one hit kill melee is in almost every modern FPS (cod, battlefield, ect) so theres nothing new in doing a knife charge, but still, valid tips and a good article.
  • Blasto - February 26, 2011 1:45 a.m.

I totally disagree about the whole "killing downed enemies" thing. As someone who plays as a medic I have killed countless people after getting up thanks to the triage ability, it's simply better to waste a few bullets than risk them standing up and killing you. Not to mention that killing someone when they're down doesn't speed up the respawn timer, they still have to wait 5 seconds.
  • soccerclownking - February 26, 2011 1:43 a.m.

i saw the opportunity and i took it. FIRST!
