The Team: An ancient society at war with the Chang Sing clan.
They have powerful magicians on their side in the shape of ‘The Three Storms’.
Key Member: Leader Lo Pan (James Hong), a merciless sorcerer.
Greatest Team Work: The Wing Kong take out the Chang Sing during a funeral procession.
Vicious isn’t the word.
The Mighty Ducks The Mighty Ducks (1992)
The Team: District 5 PeeWee hockey team, which includes team-mates Charlie Conway (Joshua Jackson), Fulton Reed (Elden Henson) and Tommy (Danny Tamberelli) and Tammy Duncan (Jane Plank).
Key Member: Conway, who new coach Gordon Bombay (Emilio Estevez) believes has a reservoir of untapped potential…
Greatest Team Work: The Ducks go all the way to the championships against sworn enemies the Hawks.
Conans Team Conan The Barbarian (1982)
The Team: A trio consisting of Conan (Arnold Schwarzenegger), archer Subotai (Gerry Lopez) and brigand Valeria (Sandahl Bergman).
Key Member: Conan – it’s his mission to slay Doom, the warrior who killed his family.
Also, y’know, the film’s named after him.
Greatest Team Work: The trio break into the Temple of Set in order to rescue King Osric’s kidnapped daughter.
The Actors Tropic Thunder (2008)
The Team: Charisma machines Tugg Speedman (Ben Stiller), Kirk Lazarus (Robert Downey Jr.), Alpa Chino (Brandon T. Jackson) and Jeff Portnoy (Jack Black).
They’re filming Tropic Thunder when they find themselves in the middle of a real war.
Key Member: Kirk Lazarus, simply because he’s freakin’ awesome.
Greatest Team Work: When Speedman’s captured and tortured, the rest of the guys plan a rescue based on the film’s script.
The Furious Five Kung Fu Panda (2008)
The Team: Trained by Master Shifu, the Furious Five are a quintet of kung fu masters comprised of Tigress, Monkey, Mantis, Viper, and Crane.
Key Member: Po (Jack Black), who’s selected as the mythical Dragon Warrior by Shifu’s mentor, Oogway.
Is he up to the task, though?
Greatest Team Work: The first Furious Five fight scene in Kung Fu Panda 2 , in which Po and the Five defend a village from invading wolf bandits.
The Norsemen The 13th Warrior (1999)
The Team: A group of 13 warriors (well, 12, the 13th member is court poet Ahmed ibn Fadlan) who set out to save a kingdom in the north from ancient evil.
Key Member: Ahmed ibn Fadlan (Antonio Banderas), the only non-warrior and ritually mocked by the Norsemen.
Greatest Team Work: The team, though dwindling in numbers, manage to defeat the Wendol by entering the cave where its mother lives and killing it.
The Losers The Losers (2010)
The Team: US Special Forces operatives, this black ops team consists of Clay (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), Jensen (Chris Evans), Cougar (Óscar Jaenada), Roque (Idris Elba) and Pooch (Columbus Short).
Key Member: New recruit/ally Aisha (Zoe Saldana), who offers Clay and his team the chance to get revenge on their traitor boss, Max
Greatest Team Work: Their opening Bolivian mission, which sees them attempting to save slave children… only to be double crossed.
Commando Elite Small Soldiers (1998)
The Team: Toy soldiers led by Chip Hazard (Tommy Lee Jones).
Their sworn enemies are the alien Gorgonites.
Key Member: Chip, naturally.
Just look who voices him.
Greatest Team Work: The Commando Elite attack Alan’s (Gregory Smith) house with heavy artillery.
Sure, their chips end up fried, but before that they put up one heck of a fight.
Retired Agents Red (2010)
The Team: Former black ops CIA agents who come out of retirement when Frank Moses (Bruce Willis) is targeted by assassins.
Key Member: Victoria (Helen Mirren), purely because she looks amazing firing a really ginormous gun.
Greatest Team Work: The team finally confront Cooper (Karl Urban) at the film’s eventful climax.
The A-Team The A-Team (2010)
The Team: A US Special Forces team that comprises of John ‘Hannibal Smith’ (Liam Neeson), Templeton ‘Face’ Peck (Bradley Cooper), B.A. (Quinton Jackson) and H.M. ‘Howling Mad’ Murdock (Sharlto Copley).
Key Member: Hannibal, clearly.
Not only is he the biggest badass there is, he’s also the one who’s contacted by the CIA for a black ops mission that ends up almost destroying the team.
Greatest Team Work: The final fight at the Los Angeles docks, where the A-Team lay the smack down on Lynch (Patrick Wilson).
Ladykillers The Ladykillers (1955)
The Team: A team of scholarly conmen led by Professor Marcus (Alec Guinness), including Major Courtney (Cecil Parker), Harry Robinson (Peter Sellers), 'One-Round' Lawson (Danny Green) and Louis Harvey (Herbert Lom).
Key Member: Marcus, of course – he’s the mastermind behind the plan to use Mrs. Louisa Wilberforce’s (Katie Johnson) house during a security van robbery.
Greatest Team Work: Attempting to convince Mrs Wilberforce that they’re an amateur string quartet by sitting together in a room holding instruments while a record plays…
Team Zissou The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou (2004)
The Team: The crew of the Belafonte, a research vessel piloted by Steve Zissou (Bill Murray).
His crew include safety expert Pelé dos Santos (Seu Jorge) and second-in-command Klaus Daimler (Willem Dafoe).
There are also some college interns.
Key Member: Zissou himself, naturally, not least because he’s the one with a mission – to track down the evil Jaguar shark that ate his best bud, Esteban du Plantier.
Greatest Team Work: Attacking the pirates that invaded the Belafonte, and rescuing both “bond company stooge” Bill Ubell and Zissou’s mortal enemy Alistair Hennessey.
Blood Pack Blade II (2002)
The Team: A crew of vampires who team up with a begrudging Blade (Wesley Snipes) in order to take down the Reapers – a new, dirty breed of vamp.
Key Member: Nyssa Damaskinos (Leonor Varela), who catches Blade’s eye.
Greatest Team Work: The team’s first mission with Blade.
They infiltrate a vampire nightclub where they come face-to-flappy-face with the Reapers.
The Expendables The Expendables (2010)
The Team: A badass group of fighters in the form of Barney Ross (Sly Stallone), Yin Yang (Jet Li), Lee Christmas (Jason Statham), Gunner Jensen (Dolph Lundgren), Hale Caesar (Terry Crews) and Toll Road (Randy Couture).
Key Member: Barney Ross, obviously, for uniting the team in the first place.
Greatest Team Work: Joined by Church (Bruce Willis) and Trench (Arnold Schwarzenegger) at the end of Expendables 2, the guys take down evil bad guy Jean Vilain (Jean-Claude Van Damme).
Classic Monsters The Monster Squad (1987)
The Team: A collection of classic movie monsters including (initially) Frankenstein’s Monster, the Wolfman, the Mummy, and the Gillman.
Key Member: Leader Count Dracula (Duncan Regehr).
He’s got grand designs on ruling the world.
Greatest Team Work: The monsters descend on the cathedral where the Monster Squad are attempting an incantation that will destroy them.
Cue fighting galore.
The Grifters The Sting (1973)
The Team: Swindlers Henry Gondorff (Paul Newman) and Johnny Hooker (Robert Redford).
They’re looking to con insufferably mean mobster Doyle Lonnegan (Robert Shaw).
Key Member: Les Harmon (Harold Gould), an old betting buddy of Hooker’s who helps set Lonnegan up.
Greatest Team Work: The final con itself is a tour-de-force of tension as Lonnegan goes to bet on a horse race, unaware that he’s being set up.
Gondforff and Hooker’s dramatic, gunpowder-fuelled ‘falling out’ is right on the money.
Three Amigos Three Amigos! (1986)
The Team: Hollywood performers Lucky Day (Steve Martin), Dusty Bottoms (Chevy Chase) and Ned Nederlander (Martin Short), who play gallant heroes in silent movies.
They’ve got the sparkliest threads you’ve ever seen.
Key Member: Ned, who doesn’t balk at the fact that the Amigos are facing real bandits, and encourages his buddies to do the right thing.
Which involves rescuing kidnapped beauty Carmen (Patrice Martinez).
Greatest Team Work: The Amigos unite with the residents of beset town Santo Poco to take down El Guapo.
Their genius plan involves the townspeople dressing in Amigos costumes to confuse Guapo’s men.
And they’re so chivalrous; they don’t even accept money for the job.
Oceans 11 Oceans Eleven (2001)
The Team: A team of variously-skilled crooks assembled by Danny Ocean (George Clooney) to rob the Bellagio, The Mirage, and the MGM Grand casinos.
Oh, did we mention he wants to rob all three at the same time?
Key Member: The Amazing Yen (Shaobo Qin), a skilled acrobat who’s pivotal to Danny’s plan.
Not least because he’s the only one small (and bendy) enough to get smuggled into the Bellagio’s vault…
Greatest Team Work : The heists themselves, of course, which take a serious amount of team work.
One of them goes wrong, the whole stack of cards falls.
Watchmen Watchmen (2009)
The Team: Mortal superheroes The Comedian (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), Rorschach (Jackie Earle Haley), Nite Owl (Patrick Wilson), Silk Spectre (Malin Åkerman) and Ozymandias (Matthew Goode).
Plus big, naked blue megahero Dr Manhattan (Billy Crudup).
Key Member: Rorschach, whose investigation into the supposed superhero murders is what drives the story – and leads to a shocking discovery.
Greatest Team Work: Rorschach and Nite Owl confront Ozymandias, and are saved (in a way) by Dr Manhattan.
Which sort of shows why this team is awesome – they’re completely dysfunctional and messed up, but somehow things come to rights anyway. Ish.
The Earps & Doc Holliday Tombstone (1993)
The Team: Comprised of retired gunslinging brothers The Earps and Doc Holliday (Val Kilmer), who are implored by the town of Tombstone, Arizona to get rid of nuisance outlaws the Cowboys.
Key Member: Wyatt Earp (Kurt Russell), who arrests Cowboys leader ‘Curly Bill’ Brocius (Powers Boothe) after he’s shot the Tombstone marshal.
Greatest Team Work: The gunfight at the O.K. Corral sees the Earps facing off against the Cowboys – with tragic results.
Dutch & Commandos Predator (1987)
The Team: A commando unit led by the imposing Dutch (Arnold Schwarzenegger).
They’re sent in to free hostages from violent guerrillas in Central America.
Key Member: Dutch aside, there’s also George Dillon (Carl Weathers), whose guns are almost as impressive as Dutch’s.
Greatest Team Work: The unit’s early attack on the rebel encampment is an impressive demonstration of their power – and fearlessness in battle.
Shame most of them are butchered by the Predator.
The Fellowship Lord Of The Rings (2001-2003)
The Team: Consisting of various Middle-earth species – including hobbits, wizards and elves.
They’re charged with transporting the One Ring to Mount Doom, where Frodo (Elijah Wood) will cast it into the lava.
Key Member: Sam (Sean Astin). Frodo’s trusted friend and comrade, Sam’s there for Frodo through the darkest, bleakest moments of the quest.
Greatest Team Work: The fact that Frodo even makes it to Mount Doom in the end is a testament to the various parts that each member of the Fellowship plays in the world-wide battle against Sauron.
Manassas Tigers Undefeated (2011)
The Team: High school Memphis football team the Manassas Tigers, who attempt to win the new football season despite years of losing.
Key Member: Bill Courtney, the team’s hopeful coach.
He’s more than just a coach to these guys, fathering them throughout the school year and attempting to teach them how to be men.
Greatest Team Work: The first time the Tigers win a game.
It’ll bring a tear to your eye.
Deadly Viper Assassination Squad Kill Bill (2003)
The Team: Elite assassins employed by Bill (David Carradine), and consisting of Vernita Green (Vivica A. Fox), Elle Driver (Daryl Hannah), O-Ren Ishii (Lucy Liu) and Bud (Michael Madsen).
Key Member: Oh, that team also used to consist of The Bride (Uma Thurman), who ‘betrayed’ Bill by trying to marry another man.
Bill shoots her in the head and leaves her for dead.
Greatest Team Work: The only time we see the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad in action together is when they attack the church where The Bride is about to get married.
Let’s just say it gets messy.
Job done, then. Ish.
The 300 300 (2006)
The Team: Six-packed Spartan soldiers led by King Leonidas (Gerard Butler) against Persian ‘god-King’ Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro).
Key Member : Dilios (David Wenham), who narrates the entire story.
Greatest Team Work: A series of battles between the 300 and Xerxes’ formidable forces, including the Immortals and, yes, war elephants.
Space Marines Aliens (1986)
The Team: A squadron of no-nonsense marines shipped off to LV-426 with space survivor Ripley (Sigourney Weaver).
But are they just pawns in Carter Burke’s (Paul Reiser) twisted bounty board game?
Key Member: It’s a testament to the film that all the marines are memorable.
Most of all, though, Private Vasquez (Jenette Goldstein) kicks serious booty and lives up to her demand – “I only need to know one thing. Where. They. Are.”
Greatest Team Work: The marines enter the xenomorph nest in the atmosphere processing station on LV-426.
Sure, a load of them are slaughtered, but these guys (and gals) are nothing if not brave.
Inglourious Basterds Inglourious Basterds (2009)
The Team: A convoy of Jewish-American soldiers spearheaded by the moustache-happy First Lieutenant Aldo Raine (Pitt).
His mission statement? Every Basterd owes him 100 Nazi scalps.
Key Member: It’s got to be Raine, though Eli Roth’s ‘Bear Jew’ is a pretty nutty fella (why not beat someone to death with a baseball bat, before bellowing random sports nonsense?).
Why Raine? Well, he’s the leader, but he also has the guts to double-cross the scariest fella in the film.
Greatest Team Work: Raine, Donny (Roth) and Omar (Omar Doom) head to Shosanna’s (Mélanie Laurent) cinema to carry out their Nazi-killing scheme…
Mutants X-Men (2000)
The Team: Professor X’s (Patrick Stewart) melange of mutants, including Cyclops (James Marsden), Jean Grey (Famke Janssen), Storm (Halle Berry) and – begrudgingly – Wolverine (Hugh Jackman).
Key Member: Wolverine’s the hero of this tale – a growly lone wolf who comes through in the end.
Greatest Team Work: Sabotaging Magneto’s plans, the X-Men manage to save the humans from a sticky end despite being incapacitated in the Statue of Liberty.
2nd Ranger Battalion Saving Private Ryan (1998)
The Team: A battalion of eight soldiers led by Captain John H. Miller (Tom Hanks). Their mission?
Track down missing paratrooper Private First Class James Francis Ryan (Matt Damon).
Key Member: Timothy E. Upham (Jeremy Davies), who’s both a cartographer and fluent in French and German.
Greatest Team Work: After finding Private Ryan, Miller and his battalion defend a bridge from the Germans.
Cue mass casualities and a heck of a lot of bravery.
Team America Team America: World Police (2004)
The Team: A team of paramilitary policemen (and women) who are responsible for protecting the world from various forms of evil.
Their headquarters are inside Mount Rushmore.
How awesome is that?
Key Member: Gary Johnston, a new recruit who previously worked on Broadway. The team want him to use his acting skills to infiltrate terrorist organisations.
Greatest Team Work: The team, with new recruit Gary, infiltrate a terrorist meeting in Egypt and manage to capture the terrorists.
Sadly, they also leave Cairo in ruin…
TMNT Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990)
The Team: Heroes in a half-shell! Four human-sized turtles called Leonardo, Michaelangelo, Donatello and Raphael.
They’re equipped with mad ninja skills.
And love pizza.
Key Member: Raphael, who falls into a coma after being thrown through a skylight by The Shredder’s Foot Clan.
Greatest Team Work: The Turtles go up against the Foot Clan in a fight that jumps from the sewers to the city streets to the building rooftops.
Then comes master Splinter, who teaches Shredder a lesson or two.
The Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense Hellboy (2004)
The Team: Exactly what it says on the tin. The BPRD recruit Hellboy (Ron Perlman), who meets scaly psychic Abe Sapien (Doug Jones) and pyrokinetic Liz (Selma Blair).
Key Member: Liz, whose burgeoning abilities are both terrifying and important to the plot.
Greatest Team Work: The team take out Kroenen, then infiltrate the monster Sammael’s nest, where Liz uses her (literal) firepower to burn it to a crisp.
Crew of the Orca Jaws (1975)
The Team: Brody (Roy Schneider), Quint (Robert Shaw) and Hooper (Richard Dreyfuss), who are out to kill the tiger shark that’s targeting Amity Island swimmers.
Key Member: Quint – it’s his boat, the Orca, that the trio set out on to nab their fishy menace.
Greatest Team Work: The heart-in-mouth moment when Hooper gets into the ocean inside a shark-proof cage, only for the cage to buckle…
Colour-Code Criminals Reservoir Dogs (1992)
The Team: Eight criminals, six of whom use colour-coded aliases.
They include Mr. Blonde (Michael Madsen), Mr. White (Harvey Keitel), Mr. Orange (Tim Roth), Mr. Blue (Eddie Bunker), Mr. Brown (Quentin Tarantino) and Mr. Pink (Steve Buscemi).
Key Member: Mr Orange.
We couldn’t possibly say why.
Greatest Team Work: The diamond heist, which we never actually see – only the aftermath.
Sure, it’s pretty much entirely cocked up, but they still worked as a team, which is what counts.
Considering this lot argue at length about a concept as basic as tipping, that's pretty impressive.
Studio Six Argo (2012)
The Team: In order to safely extract six US embassy workers from Tehran, Tony Mendez (Ben Affleck) and movie bods John Chambers (John Goodman) and Lester Siegel (Alan Arkin) set up a fake movie studio as a cover.
Key Member: Mendez – it was his crazy plan to begin with.
Greatest Team Work: The nail-biting finale, when everything comes together – or does it?
The Incredibles The Incredibles (2004)
The Team: The Parr family, which consists of papa Bob (aka Mr Incredible), mama Helen (aka Elastigirl) and kids Dash, Violet and Jack-Jack.
Key Member: Clearly, Elastigirl is the one responsible for keeping this family from killing each other at every given moment.
That said, Jack-Jack could prove pretty formidable as he comes into his super-powers.
Greatest Team Work: Taking down Syndrome’s evil, galumphing Omnidroid – which requires the whole family (sans a babysat Jack-Jack).
Channel 4 News Team Anchorman (2004)
The Team: Headed up by Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell).
The team includes field reporter Brian Fantana (Paul Rudd), Champion Kind (David Koechner) and ‘special’ meteorologist Brick Tamland (Steve Carell).
Key Member: New team member Veronica Corningstone (Christina Applegate), who ruins everything by usurping Ron as the channel’s favourite news reader.
Greatest Team Work: The team go head-to-head against four enemy news teams, including the evening news team, the Channel 2 news team and the Spanish language news team.
The Rebel Alliance Star Wars (1977-1983)
The Team: The coalition formed to rival the evil Republic, as seen through the eyes of Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher).
Key Member: At its heart, this is Luke’s story – he goes from innocent farmboy to adept Jedi, and resists joining the Dark Side even after discovering Vader’s his father.
Greatest Team Work: Sure, Leia and Solo are on Endor, while Luke’s with Vader and the Emperor.
Still, their double-pronged attack – paired with the Rebel fleet’s attack on the Death Star – results in happiness and much-deserved partying.
The Magnificent Seven The Magnificent Seven (1960)
The Team: A bunch of talented gunslingers who’re hired to defend a Mexican village from sinister bandidos.
(The film itself is a US remake of Seven Samurai. )
Key Member: Cowpuncher Britt (James Coburn), who takes everything in his stride.
Also, he’s just a really cool cat.
Greatest Team Work: The Seven (alright, sans Harry, wuss) fight to regain control of the village taken over by Calvera (Eli Wallach).
Ghostbusters Ghostbusters (1984)
The Team: A crew of three New York parapsychologists, Peter Venkman (Bill Murray), Ray Stantz (Dan Aykroyd) and Egon Spengler (Harold Ramis).
Key Member: Egon, who’s the one that tells everybody not to “cross the streams”. Why? “It would be bad.”
Greatest Team Work: The ’busters unite atop the building at 55 Central Park West and – yes, by crossing the streams – manage to stop bad guy Gozer.
Who’s just taken on the form of a giant Stay Puft Marshmallow Man. Tasty.
Mals Crew Serenity (2005)
The Team: The crew of Firefly-class spaceship Serenity, led by Captain Mal Reynolds (Nathan Fillion).
Key Member: River Tam (Summer Glau).
She looks sweet and innocent, but there’s something dark glimmering under that wallflower surface.
Greatest Team Work: While Mal attempts to send a message by Mr Universe, his crew fight off Reavers.
It looks bleak until River steps in…
Seven Samurai Seven Samurai (1954)
The Team: Seven – yes, we have to count Kikuchiyo (Toshiro Mifune) – samurai who are hired by a farming village to protect them from raiding bandits.
Key Member: Kikuchiyo, who starts out as a joke and a fool, but soon proves himself worthy of the samurai title. Mostly.
Greatest Team Work: During the final battle, the samurai bleed and die for their charges.
Not all of them survive, but that’s no reflection of their tenacity and dedication.
The Wild Geese The Wild Geese (1978)
The Team: A group of ageing mercenaries enlisted to take down a dictator in central Africa.
Among them are pilot Shawn Fynn (Roger Moore) and genius Rafer Janders (Richard Harris).
Key Member: Colonel Allen Faulkner (Richard Burton), who leads the Geese with an iron will and oodles of class.
Greatest Team Work: Running out of time, energy and ammo, the team head for an airplane in order to make a bid for freedom.
The Goonies The Goonies (1985)
The Team: Awesome outcasts Mikey (Sean Astin), Mouth (Corey Feldman), Data (Ke Huy Quan), Chunk (Jeff Cohen) and, yeah alright, older bro Brand (Josh Brolin), too.
Key Member: Chunk! None of the others would’ve been brave (or canny) enough to befriend Sloth (John Matuszak), who turns out to be a vital ally at the film’s climax.
“Heey youuuu guuuuys!”
Greatest Team Work: Working together, the Goonies manage to survive all of One-Eyed Willie’s traps.
Five Deadly Venoms Five Venoms (1978)
The Team: Composed of five kung-fu fighters whose individual animal styles give them their names: The Centipede, The Snake, The Scorpion, The Lizard and The Toad
Key Member: Yan (Sheng Chiang), who’s charged by his dying master with tracking down the Five and teaming up with them.
Greatest Team Work: This epic final fight .
The Professionals - The Professionals (1966)
The Team: Led by weapons specialist Henry ‘Rico’ Fardan (Lee Marvin), this supremely badass team also consists of explosives man Bill Dolworth (Burt Lancaster), horse wrangler Hans Ehrengard (Robert Ryan) and scout Jake Sharp (Woody Strode).
Key Member: Fardan himself, who’s not averse to spilling a little blood if needs must.
Greatest Team Work: The Professionals escape the clutches of evil bandit Jesus Raza (Jack Palance) by blowing up the walls of a gully, blocking out Raza’s forces.
The Avengers Avengers Assemble (2012)
The Team: New S.H.I.E.L.D. recruits Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Captain America (Chris Evans), Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and – later on – Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner).
Key Member: Tony Stark aka Iron Man, of course. Without him needling everybody in just the right way, nobody would have anywhere near as much fun.
Greatest Team Work: You got massive, giant alien fish things? Who cares? We got The Avengers!
When Loki’s army invades New York, Iron Man and co save the city from utter devastation – though their John McClane approach to battles still leaves NY looking pretty worse for wear.
The Wild Bunch The Wild Bunch (1969)
The Team: A group of aging outlaws, with Pike Bishop (William Holden) as their leader.
As the old West starts to disappear, they desperately attempt to find a way to survive. That invariably involves thieving.
Key Member: Angel (Jaime Sánchez). Jealous and hot-blooded, Angel doesn’t make things easy for the Wild Bunch.
