… play Runner 2
The Bit.Trip games got their start on the Wii, so it’s fitting that the series' next evolution will hit the Wii U and other platforms at some point in early 2013. Like the first game, Runner 2 stars Commander Video as he runs through dozens of hazardous levels, and players can only control when he jumps, slides, and dodges. It’s not easy, so it’s a good thing there’s catchy electronic music in each stage to set the pace.
While Runner 2 might faithfully return to the concept of the first game, the charmingly retro art has now gone HD, yet it still has character to spare. Each stage we saw had gorgeous 2D art--just don't get distracted by the backgrounds, as it’ll take all your concentration to beat some of the later stages. And while it may not look like an NES game anymore, it does have the added bonus of narration by the voice of Mario himself, Charles Martinet.
