  • Before you make your way to the Forest Temple, make sure you visit Lon Lon Ranch as an adult to obtain Epona. You’ll need to beat Ingo at two races first, but Epona is well worth the effort. To enter the Forest Temple, you’ll need the Hookshot, which is located inside the Kakariko graveyard. Find Dampe’s tombstone and pull it back to reveal his floating, race-crazy ghost; beat his challenge and he’ll reward you with the Hookshot – how specific!

  • Once Dodongo’s Cavern is handled, leave Kakariko Village and take an immediate left to access Zora’s River. Here you can begin to buy Magic Beans (useful later in the game so stock up as much you can) as well as acquire a heart piece by using the lone cuccoo fluttering around. At the end of the river, clear the path to the right of the waterfall (a shortcut to the Lost Woods) and then play Zelda’s Lullaby to access Zora’s Domain...

  • The path to the first dungeon is entirely straightforward. Village idiot Mido will demand you equip a sword and shield before visiting the Great Deku Tree, which is easily done; The Kokiri Sword is located in a maze on top of a hill in the village (you can see it in the lower left side of the village map) and the Deku Shield is available in the shop for 40 Rupees. Scour the village for cash, equip both items, talk to Mido and then enter the Great Deku tree...

  • After completing the Spirit Temple, return to the Temple of Time and discover Sheik’s true identity. Ganondorf soon intervenes and forces Link to face him in his own castle, a terrifying tower where Hyrule Castle once stood. Enter and finish the fight...

  • Now that Ocarina of Time is available on the 3DS, one of Nintendo's greatest adventures is now accessible across four different platforms - the N64 original, a GameCube promotional disc, the Wii's Virtual Console and, obviously, the 3DS. Luckily, each of these contain the exact same game, so one guide fits all. As with all Zelda games, the meat of the game lies within each of the nine dungeons; each presents its own ideas and challenges, with some more devious than others. To that end, we offer video walkthroughs for all nine dungeons, from the Deku Tree to the final showdown with Ganon.

  • After toppling Bongo Bongo and the Shadow Temple, head west of Hyrule Field to Gerudo Valley and Gerudo Fortress. Before long the Gerudo warrior women will toss you in jail; use the Longshot to escape and then slink through their headquarters without being seen. Along the way, you’ll rescue several construction workers, each of whom is protected by a sword-wielding Gerudo. Once you’ve befriended these thieves, you’ll have to enter their training ground and acquire the Ice Arrows...

  • After completing the first dungeon, you’ll have to visit Hyrule Castle and obtain Zelda’s Letter to proceed up Death Mountain, which is located behind Kakariko Village. Before you make the trek up the path, however, make sure to visit Lon Lon Ranch in Hyrule Field (for a bottle and heart piece) as well as the Lost Woods for Saria’s Song and even more heart pieces. In fact, you should be able to complete a full heart (that’s four pieces) before setting foot in the second dungeon. Finally, collect all the Cuccos in Kakariko Village for another bottle and catch at least one fairy inside one of the two bottles...

  • Now that you’re adult Link and can freely travel back and forth through time (via Temple of Time and Prelude of Light), take some time to plant Magic Beans as young Link and then visit those places as an adult to find helpful hovering plants. As you climb Death Mountain and enter its summit in search of the Fire Temple you’ll access to quite a few of these plants, which then carry you to items that were previously out of reach. The trip to the Fire Temple alone can net you three heart pieces...

  • After completing the Water Temple, look for a shrine-like tablet on the island with a tree. Obtain the Fire Arrows by firing an arrow into the rising sun as it passes through two pillars in the distance. With those in hand, head to Kakariko Village – it’s on fire! Turns out an ancient evil has been awakened and it’s up to Link (and Impa, sort of) to stop it.

Return here as a child and play the Song of Storms to drain the well. Proceed down the well and trudge through this mini-dungeon to acquire the Lens of Truth. Now return to Kakariko as an adult, play the Nocturne of Shadow you recently learned and enter the Shadow Temple...

  • Ah yes, this thing. While the 3DS version may add a few things to lessen the evil that is the Water Temple, the N64 / GC / Virtual Console versions are as murky and misleading as ever. The basic premise is to lower and raise the water level by playing Zelda’s Lullaby at one of three specified locations. Some areas can only be accessed with the water at max height, others with it in the middle and other still only when the water is at its lowest point. Not a bad idea for a puzzle-based dungeon, but the sheer amount of equipping and un-equipping the Iron Boots (obtained in the Ice Cave in the frozen Zora’s Fountain) sucks all the fun out of it...
