Activision has announced that its upcoming Spider-Man: Edge of Time will
feature updated Spider-Man suit designs featured
in the recently launched Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man series. Bridging the gap
between the Spidey who'll turn 50 next year and the newer, dark 'n' edgier
Ultimate Comics version who debuted last month, today’s new assets prove beyond
a doubt that Spider-Man is packing some heat. Just look at that pants bulge!...
Nintendo has a lot of work to do if it wants to
the 3DS to attract more female gamers. As you can see from this handy chart,
the Wii and Nintendo DS seem to be equally popular with both guys and gals. The
3DS, on the other hand, is a bit more of a sausage in comparison. Clearly, nurturing
the Nintendo 3DS’ female audience is important, and the best way to grow the
pink side of this bar is with, well, more pink…
Last night’s Nintendo 3DS press conference was a letdown for
many fans. There weren’t any huge game announcements (with the exception of a
new Fire Emblem and Mario Tennis) to speak of, and the 3DS slider-pad-thing
ended up being just as awkward as we feared. To make matters worse, Nintendo
confirmed that Kid Icarus, one of the 3DS’s flagship titles, had been pushed
back yet again, slipping into 2012. Thankfully, that doesn’t seem to be the
case, and Nintendo has given a few of their remaining 2011 games solid release
It's not that the DS' New Super Mario Bros. was a crap game by any stretch of the imagination, of course. In fact it was bloody brilliant. But throughout, I just couldn't shake the feeling that I was playing a game that lacked the freshness and spark that core Mario games usually exude in abundance. Kind of like it was a very, very good tribute game rather than a real one.
The 3DS' Super Mario 3D Land however, now looks to have no such problems. I had my doubts about the game's lesser freedom compare to the likes of Galaxy, but now I've seen more of it, I love the idea of combining 3D Mario's versatility with the tight, linear challenge of 2D Mario. You might too. Have a look and find out. And then tell me, for I wish to hear.
Shinobi 3DS, Griptonite's reboot of Sega's classic ninja platformer series, is still on track for its revised November release date. From the looks of this new gameplay trailer, Griptonite appears to have been spending the extra time watching videos of the series-defining Genesis titles on double-speed – then making sure the new game plays like that, all the time...
European and Australian Sonic fans are in for a grab bag of
hedgehog goodies, as Sega has revealed the full list of items scheduled to ship
with all PAL-exclusive Sonic Generations Collector's Editions for PS3 and Xbox
played any Spider-Man games or watched any Spider-Man TV shows, then you’ve
already heard voice actor Josh Keaton deliver Peter Parker’s signature witty
banter. He’s voiced the wall-crawler in Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Spider-Man:
Shattered Dimensions, and the Marvel Super Hero Squad games, and he’s returning
to voice the Amazing Spider-Man in Spider-Man: Edge of Time. In this trailer
for the game, Keaton talks up the character, and explains why the stakes are so
much higher this time around. He also says “You’re also going to have to
compete against time… itself,” with a straight face, proving why none of us
could ever be voice actors...
has released this short clip of Star Fox 64 3D to remind you that the game's
not all talking animals exchanging action-movie pleasantries in spaceships. Oh
no, there's also talking animals trading warm-hearted banter in tanks, and
talking animals in submarines feebly making excuses for the dire
underperformance of said submarines (on the plus side, keep shooting, because
you've got lots of torpedoes). But hey, don't those landmaster levels look
better than ever? Not a huge orange beach-ball explosion in sight...
You may remember how angry I got when a Sonic fan video took Sonic and Knuckles' first level, Mushroom Hill, and reimagined it in glorious 3D. I wasn't angry because it was bad - I was angry because it was so good, it made every real modern side-scrolling Sonic game look a bit crap in comparison. Well, never one to shy away from potential outcry from its fanbase, Sega's tempting a direct comparison by making a 3D-ised version of Mushroom Hill in the 3DS version of Sonic Generations. There are screens. You can see them here. But is it looking good, or am I going to have to turn green and bust out of my shirt again?
