2K says ‘No DLC for you!’ to BioShock 2 PC players

Protector Trials and Minerva’s Den to remain as console-only content

Words: on October 11, 2010

Publisher 2K Games has confirmed that BioShock 2's two DLC packs will never be available for the PC version and apologized for any disappointed caused by the announcement. In a post on 2K Games' forums, senior manager of interactive marketing Elizabeth Tobey confirmed the bad news. "We will... not be offering Protector Trials and Minerva’s Den on the PC in the future – and I want to say that I’m sorry for the disappointment this will cause to PC players out there," says Tobey.

The Protector Trials DLC adds a new single-player rhythm game and more in-game maps. Minverva's Den also gives players some more single-player gameplay. Tobey clarified that "timing and technical issues" led to the decision.

That's fine, it wasn't that good of a game to begin with.

@thomas1980: Obviously, glancing over the rampant piracy on consoles helps your case.

Piracy is being put on the spotlight on the PC because there's also music piracy, software piracy, movie piracy... If you look at the numbers, there are many other platforms that also suffer from piracy.

And while nobody was promised anything, it's still just a cheap move. You can't compare that with Alan Wake, which Microsoft specifically bought exclusive rights for, or AA, which Sony did the same with the DLC. There is no reason here not to release the DLC on the PC apart from Activision's vision that the PC is doomed and that they should stop supporting it ASAP (see MW2 without dedicated servers).

I, for one, will not be purchasing Bioshock 2.

    @ ZiegZeon

    And the viscous circle continues.

PC gamer gets pissy, because for once he doesn't get the best version of something. Decides he does not have to pay for stuff anymore because he is on a bullshit moral crusade. Developer sees more piracy and decides to scale back on PC development & Support, PC gamer gets even more pissy.

At what point in your transaction (assuming you actually paid for Bioshock 2) where you promised any additional content? You paid for the main game, you got that, that is 2k obligation to you over with, you are not entitled to anything else they do.

I do not get pissy at Remedy when they don't release Alan Wake on PS3, and I don't get pissy with Rocksteady when they create exclusive content for the PS3 version of Batman AA.

But then again I don't have a false sense of entitlement as many PC gamers seem to have.

2k decided not to release some additional and optional content on PC. Big whoop the way PC gamers are talking its as if they are holding back the ending of the main game.

I'm gonna say it: This is the type of shit that leads to more piracy, i.e. why should I buy the PC version of infinite when there is a chance it won't be supported? Why are PC gamers being treated like second class citizens? It makes no goddamn sense. And I have to say, I just lost A LOT of respect for 2K out of this.

Well thanks, I guess I was under the influence that I would be able to play the new dlcs at some point in the future. Luckily for me I don't have an Xbox so I guess I could... I don't know play with a stick or something. I'll also have an expansion pack for the stick that the other sticks won't be able to play at all.

    what. the. fuck.

The 2K Forums are an absolute war zone right now. I'm not a PC gamer myself but I think that 2K made a really REALLY bad call here. I used to admire 2K, and I do love BioShock 2 to pieces, but this kind of decision is evident of poor management, and has negatively impacted my opinions of the company.

Im really hating 2k right now. I may be a console gamer but this still aint fucking right to those that play on PC. First they releash a multiplayer map pack for the game that didnt have its own seperate playlist so I payed 10 dolars for nothing. Then they promised an update for the game to fix the mp problem but they never did. And now this. You know what, fuck you 2k fuck you and go to hell.
