Great article. I saw Collateral in theaters - agree that it's underrated. Also DMC4's fire boss seems more a direct rip off of the Balrog...with the exception of the chain.

I want to say how cool I think a game that takes ideas from The Gauntlet would be, but does anyone want a game that's entirely based on what is essentially an escort mission?

So, where's MW2 Gulag level ripping the entire shower area right from 'The Rock', or any number of scenes from 'Black Hawk Down' and 'Generation Kill' (not a movie, I know but still). And what about the first Russian level in WaW taking from 'Enemy at the Gates' as well?

@turbo, my error, spielberg had a "created by" credit, not a producer credit.

Movie is based on historical facts. Game uses movie as main inspiration. Game is loosely based on historical facts. Blasphemy? Nothing is quite that original these days. People feel comfortable with what they're use to and already know, almost always skepticle of a completely new genre or concept. So games borrowing from movies, in my opinion, isn't the worst idea possible. It makes ppl feel....special because they "got it", provided they've seen the movie and are able to pick up on the references. It can be nostalic, and that litte tingle and excitement u get is definately a little added slice of heaven to an already enjoyable, yet selective medium.

Steven Spielberg didn't produce MOH Allied Assault

Fallout 2 has a TON of pop culture homages in it, many of which are in direct reference to movies. Not that it's from a movie- but does anyone else notice how Packie from GTA4 looks like he was modeled after the host of 'Cash Cab'?

You're so right about Collateral. It's hugely underrated and yet one of Michael Mann's greatest.
  • chrisbg99 - January 13, 2010 9:55 p.m.

Forgot to mention Conker's Bad Fur Day and the various parodies within.
  • toastedmilk - January 13, 2010 9:36 p.m.

concerning medal of honor, didn't spielberg have a producer's credit on that series? i also thought i read some time ago that the game was originally meant to be a tie in to spr, but i could be completely wrong about that. also @iiiiiaceiiiii, i don't know about this chamber of secrets game of which you speak, but there was a ps2 game called grim grimoire that borrowed rather liberally from the harry potter movies. it was made by vanillaware and was actually rather good, but it's impossible to not think of harry potter when playing it.

How long until movies are copying games? Or are we there already?
  • CocainCuresAll - January 13, 2010 9:15 p.m.

the call of duty - enemy at the gates was the first thing i thought of when i saw the title of the article. but they continued copying enemy at the gates in cod5 when the playable character has to lay in a fountain in town square and cover the sound of the rifle with the with the sound of the planes flying overhead.

Holy crap... only me and two other people saw Behind Enemy Lines?
  • scotty212 - January 13, 2010 8:42 p.m.

um.. Call of Duty 1 is based off historical events.. not a movie... granted there are similarities.. but it is a historical game (although not entirely accurate but whatever)

I like Obscure. Fun little survival horror especially in co-op. How about any one man army games being copied from the Arnie classic Commando!!!???
  • IIIIIACEIIIII - January 13, 2010 7:49 p.m.

Have you guys ever played 'Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets' on the PS2? It TOTALLY ripped off this film that was made about the same time, same characters and locations and everything.
  • JackSkellingtonsSkin - January 13, 2010 5:46 p.m.

The films seem to have way better graphics, Josh Hartnett almost looks like a real person in that picture.
  • Conman93 - January 13, 2010 5:39 p.m.

I dont see how they could make a movie of uncharted. The game itself is so much like a movie already that it would be weird btw didnt conkers bad fur day have the omaha beach landing bit too. I guess that was more of a parody though
