3) The amount of blood
The enemies, called Heaven Smiles, have a weak point. Blast it and they’ll explode into cascades of “thick blood.” This can then be used to upgrade abilities by running it through a blood machine. Shoot a Smile anywhere else and it produces “thin blood” which heals any Smith or charges special attacks. Kaede Smith can also slit her wrists like a common Dashboard Confessional fan, creating gushing fountains of plasma to remove barriers.
